Gateway has many reboots

The problem

The gateway keeps restarting (reboots). This can cause interruptions in data collection and discrepancies in the meter readings.

Why does this happen?

Many reboots are usually caused by power problems or outdated firmware. After each reboot, the gateway loads a backup that is up to 4 hours old, which can lead to incorrect meter readings.

Solution: Step by step

Step 1: Update to the latest firmware

Outdated firmware causes stability issues.

How?

  • Open the Firmware menu of your gateway
  • Check whether a newer version is available
  • Start the update and wait for the gateway to restart

✅ Fewer reboots? Then it was the firmware!

Step 2: Check your power supply

A) Use your own USB power adapter

Do not connect the gateway to the USB port of another device (modem, TV, PC, router).

These provide insufficient power.

Always use your own, reliable power adapter of 5V and at least 1A (for example, an old phone charger with micro-USB).

B) Replace the power adapter (preventively)

Even if it seems to work: an old or damaged adapter can be unstable.

Try a new adapter.

C) Replace the USB cable as well

Thin or cheap USB cables have high resistance.

This causes voltage drop and instability.

Use a quality USB cable with data connection.

✅ No more reboots after changing the power? Solved!

Step 3: Protect against power interruptions

If you suspect that short power interruptions are the cause:

Option: USB power bank as a mini-UPS

Choose a power bank with passthrough functionality.

This means: the gateway receives power while the power bank is charging.

Without passthrough, this will not work properly.

  • Connect the gateway to the power bank
  • Connect the power bank to mains power

This protects your gateway from short power interruptions (until the power bank is empty).

Step 4: Still many reboots?

Collect the logs from the moment the reboots occur.

How?
→ See: Collect the gateway logs
Send the logs to support so we can determine what is causing the reboots.

Checklist

✅ Firmware updated to the latest version
✅ Using your own USB power adapter (not via another device)
✅ Power adapter replaced (preventively)
✅ USB cable replaced with a better one
✅ Tested for stability for 24–48 hours

Still reboots? → Collect logs and contact support
