The gateway is not receiving any data, or all values are 0
Problem
The gateway is not receiving any data from your smart meter, or all values remain at 0. As a result, you donβt get any insight into your energy usage and the gateway does not provide (correct) meter readings.
Why does this happen?
This issue is usually caused by an incorrect firmware setting on the gateway. There are different types of smart meters, each requiring its own firmware and sometimes a specific power supply. If the firmware does not match the meter type you have, the gateway may not be able to read the P1 data correctly.
Solution: Step by step
Step 1: Check the current status of the gateway
How?
- Log in to your gateway
- Check the screen showingΒ Gateway TypeΒ and the counters:
- Telegrams received
- Telegrams with errors
- IfΒ Telegrams with errorsΒ is smaller thanΒ Telegrams receivedΒ β The gateway is successfully receiving data; there is no problem.
- IfΒ Telegrams with errorsΒ is equal toΒ Telegrams received, or if both values stay atΒ 0Β β The firmware needs to be changed. Go toΒ Step 2.
Step 2: Find your meter in the list
Each smart meter brand and model requires a specific firmware version, and some meters require an external USB power supply (5Vβ1A).
How?
- Open the full overview of all supported smart meters (per country):
smartgateways.nl/overzicht-slimme-meters - Look up yourΒ brand and model
- Check the requiredΒ Firmware VersionΒ and whether external power is required
β If your meter is not in the list, report this via the contact formβthen weβll check whether your meter is compatible.
Step 3: Install the correct firmware
How?
- Open the gatewayβsΒ FirmwareΒ menu
- Select the firmware version that matches your meter (as found in Step 2)
- The gateway will download the firmware automatically and reboot
Then check the screen again: Gateway Type should now show the newly installed firmware.
β If Telegrams received is greater than Telegrams with errors β The correct firmware is installed.
Step 4: Check the power supply (if needed)
If the overview states that your meter requires external power:
How?
- Connect aΒ 5Vβ1AΒ USB power adapter directly to the gateway
- Do not connect the gateway via the USB port of another device (modem, TV, PC, router)
β If you start receiving data after this step, the issue is resolved.
Step 5: Still no data?
In Belgium and some other countries, the P1 port is disabled by default. Contact your network operator to have the port enabled.
Also check whether the P1 port sends data according to the DSMR/ESMR/SMR standard. DLMS/COSEM is not supported and is not compatible with the Smart Meter Gateway.
Finally, collect the gateway logs at the moment the problem occurs.
How?
β See: Read out the gateway logs
Send the logs to support so we can determine the cause.
Checklist
β Gateway status checked (Telegrams received vs. Telegrams with errors)
β Meter found in the meter overview
β Correct firmware installed
β External power connected (if required)
β Tested for stable data reception for 24β48 hours
β Still no data? β Collect logs and contact support
π‘ Tip
No or incorrect data is almost always due to aΒ firmware mismatch. First check the meter overview to see which firmware must be used for your meter type.
