View Gateway Log
Why is it useful to read out the log of a gateway?
The logging gives you insight into how your gateway works and helps with troubleshooting.
What do I need?
- ESPHome Flasher (free tool for Windows / macOS)
- USB cable with data connection (not all USB cables have this!)
- Silicon Labs driver for the serial port
Step 1: Download and install the driver
Download the CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Driver from:

This ensures that your computer recognizes your gateway via USB.
Step 2: Download ESPHome Flasher
Download the ESPHome Flasher for your operating system (Windows or macOS).
Step 3: Connect your gateway
Make sure your gateway is connected to the smart meter.
Connect the gateway to your computer using a USB cable with data connection.
Start ESPHome Flasher.
Step 4: Select the correct port
Open ESPHome Flasher.
Select the serial port your gateway is connected to.
Click on “View Logs”
The gateway restarts automatically and you can see the live logging in the console.
Let the log run until the problem occurs. Select the full log and save it if needed.
Tip: Com port niet zichtbaar?
- Click the arrow to the right of “Serial port” to refresh the ports.
- Have you installed the driver? Check it via Device Manager (Windows).
- Are you using a USB cable without data connection? Try a different one.
- Restart your computer.
